Small to Large Commercial, Industrial and Agricultural Solutions that Lower Energy Costs

The financial analysis is in: Commercial solar is a smart money move

In 2018, the Canadian Energy Regulator released the Economics of Solar Power in Canada report, which studied the financial viability of typical solar power projects across Canada.

“Currently, commercial solar breakevens are less than commercial electricity prices in most places in […] Ontario. This means that businesses in those communities could expect to save money by installing commercial solar,” the report said.

These maps show the breakeven point for commercial solar compared to typical hydro costs. Green means solar energy costs less to produce than purchasing electricity from a utility, while read means it costs more. In Ontario, commercial solar is 21% cheaper compared to fixed rate electricity and 36% cheaper when compared to time of use rates.

A solar energy system helps lower both short and long-term energy costs. This same report extrapolated from historical trends and assumed that energy prices would increase an additional 1.9% above inflation per year. So you not only save money today, but net savings continue to grow as energy rates increase year over year. Your organization will have reduced its volatility and secured energy costs for a long, long time.

But just how long can you expect a system to last? The U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory says solar power plants have a useful life of 25 to 40 years. And a 2019 World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) ruling increased the useful life of an utility-scale project from 25 to 35 years.

Battery Energy Storage Systems

Hydro outages are more than just an inconvenience to Ontario businesses – they can be detrimental. In a survey of 800 organizations, ITIC found that for enterprises with over 1,000 employees, the average cost of a single outage ranged from $100,000 to $300,000. This is bad news as Ontario saw the most outages in the country from 2015 to 2017 according to Eaton, and is continuing to experience reliability issues.

Rechargeables has a solution for you – battery energy storage systems with or without integrated solar energy systems. We provide trusted, custom-designed systems to fit your needs; whether you want to offset peak load, lower delivery and global adjustment costs, or secure operations with industrial back-up using a battery energy storage system. Understanding how you consume electricity and how you pay for it is key. For example, a battery energy storage system can save Ontario-based Class A customers millions of dollars in annual global adjustment costs, by discharging energy from the batteries when Ontario’s grid reaches its absolute peak demand five times per year. Agricultural customers and small businesses can save on delivery costs, enjoy peace of mind with back-up power, as well as integrate new loads despite service capacity constraints from their current or proposed grid connection. It’s time to get your battery energy storage system designed today!

Electric vehicle charging stations

COMMERCIAL EV CHARGING SERVICES

There are now more than 150,000 electric vehicles on the road in Canada. Rechargeables carries a wide range of charging stations for drivers, corporate fleets and away-from-home charging.

In addition, we assist organizations with their NRCan applications to successfully secure rebates of up to 50% of the total installation cost. Rechargeables’ first municipal client was the Region of Waterloo in 2018, who secured 50% funding for more than 60 parking spaces, located at 20 sites across their beautiful, electrified region. To get the job done, Jeremy Day established a ChargePoint record by completing 29 formal site assessments is four business days (travelling over 858 km) to meet NRCan’s tight deadlines.

COMMERCIAL CHARGING STATIONS

ChargePoint AC stations offer reliable, all-purpose charging for workplaces, multifamily residences and fleet depots. These solutions offer businesses and property owners the opportunity to generate new revenue while providing a necessary service for drivers.

ChargePoint DC stations provide high-power charging for commercial and industrial settings. These solutions let property owners, businesses and government organizations offer fast charging where time to charge is limited, such as freeway corridors and retail and hospitality locations.
